VOLUNTEER SELECTION POLICY

  • Volunteers are asked to apply in writing initially to WGCADA addressing their letter to the Training and Development Manager.

  • The Training and Development Manager will then contact the potential volunteer and arrange for them to meet for an informal interview.

  • A Senior counsellor, alongside the Training and Development Manager, will assess the suitability of the potential volunteer to access volunteer training in accordance with WGCADA's Volunteer policy.

  • Should the potential Volunteer not be suitable for our Volunteering training at WGCADA the Training and Development Manager will write to them informing them of our decision. Where appropriate a reason will be given in accordance with WGCADA's Volunteer Policy. If appropriate advice will be given on where to access alternative opportunities.

  • If the potential Volunteer is suitable for Volunteer training the Training and Development Manager will write to them inviting them to join the next Volunteer Training Programme. They will also be asked for the names of two character referees and the procedure for requesting references and police checks will be initiated.

  • Potential Volunteers are to be informally assessed during the volunteer training course and will be made aware of this.

  • Any potential Volunteer who completes the training and who the trainers agree is suitable to become a Volunteer will be informed of this decision.

  • The Volunteer will then meet with the Senior Counsellor at the agency they will be volunteering at. Volunteering opportunities will be discussed.

  • Only following the receipt of satisfactory references may the person begin volunteering.
