This is a purely educational group in which all aspects of alcohol
and drug abuse is covered. Also the Self-Help groups like Alcoholics/Narcotics
Anonymous are talked about. This is conducted on a Group basis.
It is an 11-week course.
-
There are no more than 15 clients in this group at any given
time.
-
We deal with the physical, emotional, and progressive damage
that alcohol and/or drug abuse causes not only to ourselves but
also to our families and close friends.
-
We also have support workers available to help clients with
things like Housing Benefits and DSS problems.
-
The Group consists of a 2 hour session that includes videos
and/or lectures by the counselling staff and co-workers. After
the group session there is then an opportunity, over coffee, for
the clients to discuss any other problems that they may have.
-
To access this group all clients are initially assessed, on
referral, to ascertain the exact nature of their problem, and
their suitability for this part of the programme.
-
This is not an abstinence-based group but clients are encouraged
towards that goal where appropriate.
