About the scheme
The Swansea Prison Addiction Rehabilitation Centre is run in partnership
with WGCADA, HMP Swansea and Probation Service delivering the newly
accredited Prison Partnership 12-Step Drug Rehabilitation Programme,
in conjunction with HMP Verne, HMP Lancaster castle, and HMP Earlstoke.
The programme is split into three sections run over a 6-month period,
with four weeks pre-admission phase, 12 weeks core programme phase,
and 12 weeks aftercare phase.
Who is it for?
The treatment programme is aimed primarily at welsh prisoners housed
in appropriate category prisons with the minimum of six months remaining
to servE, who have a history of offending related to alcohol and
drug use, and are seeking an abstinence-based programme.
Support services
The SPARC unit and CARAT teams work in conjunction sethng up ongoing
support services for prisoners who have completed the rehabilitation
programme, accessing support from suitable drug agencies and where
necessary setting up links with self help groups on behalf of prisoners
due for release.
Referral process
Referrals may be made through a number of channels:
- A personal referral - prisoner may send in a letter requesting
to be considered for treatment
- A referral for a CARAT assessment
- A referral via personal officer or other prison service personnel
All referrals require a full CARAT assessment prior to unit assessment.
