About the scheme
WGCADA's Elderly and Disabled worker is based in Neath Port Talbot.
It is funded by the Welsh Assembly Government Alcohol and Drug Treatment
Fund and is the only post of its kind in the area.
Although the abstinence model remains the underlying philosophy
of the centre based on the principals of AA and NA, as an agency
we believe that abstaining from substances is healthier and more
positive option for all individuals in society in general. However,
we do recognise that not everybody is at the stage where they can
or even want to abstain. For that reason we work with users to set
and achieve their goals, to promote stability and positive change
in order to assist the individual to obtain an alcohol and drug
free life style.
Who is the scheme suitable for?
55+ age group and people with disabilities.
The initial assessment establishes the clients current needs once
assessment has been completed, an agreed treatment plan is developed
to meet all identified needs be it abstinence or harm reduction.
The key worker will be the Elderly and Disabled worker and will
see the service user / client on a regular basis and offer support
the client on all aspects of their lives including health promotion.
Sometimes there will be a necessity for joint care plans with other
agencies i.e. CDAT, Social Services. This is to ensure the client
receives the best quality of care.
