Case Study 2
R is a 44-year-old male self-referred alcoholic who discovered
the agency of WGCADA at Neath through picking up one of the
agencies explanatory leaflets at his G.Ps surgery.
R accessed the agency through the assessment procedure and attended
the pre-treatment group for a period of eleven weeks. During that
time, R also attended the Domino Project, which in effect meant
that R was able to access the agency for three days of the week.
By his own admittance, although R was still drinking during that
time, those three days of involvement at the agency enabled R to
experience some sober time.
R was also able to experience a casual insight into what recovery
is all about by listening to members of staff and other clients
on the Domino Project. It was through this engagement and interaction
that R decided to submit a request to enter into a detox facility.
This was initiated and several weeks after completing pre-treatment
and continual attendance on the Domino Project, R entered into Broadway
Lodge inpatient treatment centre.
After two months at Broadway Lodge and completing treatment, R
re-engaged with the agency of WGCADA to continue with the
aftercare programme of treatment. Moreover, he decided to attend
the Domino Project again because he realised that it was important
to occupy his time in a constructive manner.
To date his attendance his valued immensely, in that R provides
a positive contribution to other clients on the project who might
be experiencing some of the difficulties that he once experienced.
At Domino you might like to try some of the activities
on offer, maybe guitar, computers, or even stress management , etc.
