THE PAD

“The Pad” is a separate young people’s drug and alcohol service that offers free, confidential advice, information and support to young people under the age of 21.

The aim is to reduce the risks and harm caused by drugs and alcohol misuse amongst this age group and comprehensive assessments are undertaken to enable appropriate intervention if needed for those young people who use substances including those who are highly vulnerable and high-risk substance Misusers.

All work is carried out within the appropriate legal frame work 9eg.Children act 1989 and the principles of good practice guidelines (e.g. HAS report 1996, SCODA guidelines etc)

Information, advice and education is available and delivered through a range of media to maximise opportunity  for engagement with those young people with varying degrees of substance use and enable those young people to make safe and informed choices.

All services are free and provided in a relaxed non-judgmental environment, and include:

  • Counselling, advice, information, education and support-face to face or over the telephone.
  • Practical support-benefits, housing, training, employment support.
  • Diversionary activities.
  • Access to prescribing, following assessment.
  • Detox and rehabilitation advice and support.
  • Needle exchange
  • Safer sex advice and free condoms
  • Pregnancy advice and support
  • Advice and support for parent / Carer /Families.
