Playing the Guitar at WGCADAGuitar   Classes

This activity is good for those who find it hard to attend the centre during the day due to one reason of another.

Guitar classes are suitable for anyone - whether you are a complete beginner or have played for years. The class is very popular and good fun as well as being very positive.

Other instruments can be brought along; in fact we enthusiastically encourage it!, you are quite welcome to shake a maraca or play on the bongos and we always need singers!

Its completely free and guitars are provided!

We also provide singing lessons once a month! ask keith when the next singing lesson will take place!

Swansea - Every Thursday evening from 5pm untill 6.30pm.

How it all started

"The year was 2000, and it was a new start. It was also the year the Warblers were formed. It all started with somebody's brainwave, 'I know, Keith plays Guitar, he can give us all lessons'. It was as simple as that really, (nothing controlling about it at all). It was also another excuse to expand the ever-widening spectrum of the increasingly popular DOMINO (Development of Motivation In New Outlooks) Project.

Anyway, we got together staff, clients and a bunch of rusty old Guitars and just started simple Guitar lessons, which led us to learning our first song.

Christmas was poking its busy little chops around the corner, and it seemed a good idea we learn a song to mark the occasion.

After choosing the classic 'Silent Night', we thought it would be an idea to perform it at the approaching Christmas reunion.

We started rehearsals, and the idea's got more bizarre and ambitious as the song progressed, ending up with people bringing in other instruments including Bongos, Shakers, Sheila on the Tambourine and even Rob on his Tenor Horn (pardon the French).

KeithThe song certainly evolved, beginning with the traditional solo singer with choir approach, and ending up in a full swing 'Calypso Fiesta', more than slightly influenced by Harry Bellefonte's 'Mary's Boy Child'.

The concert was great fun, and also a huge success. Christmas done and dusted we decided to continue with Guitar lessons.

For one reason or another we've lost a player or two along the way, but a whole lot more were eager to join 'The WARBLERS'.

It's now coming up to Christmas AGAIN, and we'd like to say a big thank you for your efforts, and for being part of our recoveries. We'd also like to show our deep appreciation to everyone at and around WGCADA.

We thought this year we'd make a little souvenir of our efforts. The disc was made with kind permission and gentle persuasion of our Executive Dictator (sorry) Director. We hope you enjoy it.

Treat yourself, have a nice easygoing Christmas."

With love and gratitude, Keith
